Cardinal George on HHS mandate: “The institutions for which we’re responsible will simply not cooperate”

"It will be up to the government to decide what it wants to do."

CNS has a video of a brief interview with Cardinal Francis George, in which he discusses the Obama administration’s new HHS mandate regulations:

“I understand the new regulations expand not the definition [of religious institutions] but they expand the number of institutions that might be accommodated by it. But the issue of government taking upon itself…to decide what is religious and what is not is truly a constitutional issue and that must go forward.

“The bishops have made it very clear that the institutions for which we’re responsible will simply not cooperate, and then it will be up to the government to decide what it wants to do. I think that’s where we are, and that’s where we stay.”
