“Get out of my pub!”: On vaccinating the young and other bad ideas

Safety and comfort, as Dostoevsky predicted in The Brothers Karamazov and P. D. James in The Children of Men, are to be offered in lieu of independence and liberty.

I see from the graphs provided by the CBC that in the land of my birth the local witchdoctor’s lockdown charm has been working well – so well she’s trotted out Premier Horgan to demand it be performed yet again, with more enthusiasm. And that medical professionals there are urging the province to “make the AstraZeneca vaccine available to everyone over eighteen,” as that will speed up the rollout. Makes sense, I guess, if for every five-year age group, as we move down the scale, “the chance of dying from a COVID-19 infection is exponentially smaller.” Those eighteen-year-olds must be clamoring for it. Not sure about the school children for which the drug companies are competing.

People unfamiliar with British Columbia’s Bonnie Henry, whom The New York Times lauded as “one of the most effective public health figures in the world,” can look at her new book on the month that made her fortune, Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe: Four Weeks that Shaped a Pandemic. The public incantation is in the title. The real trick, as the subtitle hints, is turning four weeks into fourteen months and counting. But it’s not just Bonny Bonnie who’s on my mind; rather it’s all those lab-coat lobbyists the media like to call “medical professionals.” They compel me to speak further to one particular vaccination question that concerns us non-professionals too: namely, whether those of a more senior age who have been vaccinated ought to be encouraging younger folk to do likewise.

The short answer is no. What older people do for themselves on a risk/reward basis is up to them. What they should not do is ask younger people, like the unfortunate Mr. Foley who was hoping for a career in medicine, to share the risks with them or to take risks for them.

Though I am myself no expert on those risks, it is manifest that the experts themselves are divided. It is equally manifest that forces are at work that have nothing to do with medical expertise, that people of great power and influence are urging medications on those who have no need of them while profiting enormously from the take-up. Even the universities, bastions now for safety rather than for serious thought, are likewise urging, if not (like Rutgers or Notre Dame) actually requiring, vaccinations for the young and healthy who are not at risk from the coronavirus, in a vain attempt to prevent those who are at risk from ever being exposed. That’s the way a perpetual pandemic is run. I expect they’ll be generously rewarded by those people of great power and influence.

Such people, of course, are plainly in a conflict of interest position. Some seem quite willing to dissemble when it suits them, and to ally themselves with other rapacious forces such as the Chinese Communist Party. It is right to be suspicious of them, and so also of those who keep insisting that we are all in this together and must make sacrifices for one another. Just because that is sometimes true, and indeed noble, does not make it true here and now, in this particular way.

For my part, I strongly discourage younger people from being vaccinated. This is not only because of unresolved ethical concerns related to abortion and the ongoing trade in fetal body parts. It is also because of the short and long-term risks attached to these “vaccines” that are not really vaccines, including risks that may not begin to appear for quite some time. The latter kind of risk may prove non-existent, of course. Or it may prove less rare than the former – we don’t know and can’t know at present. In any case, the former is not rare enough, as some have noticed. The usual caveats about anecdotal data notwithstanding, I suggest listening to Dr. Hoffe in Bonnieland to get a “front-line” feel for this, or at least to read his letter to her.

Some experts have been adamant that we ought not to be experimenting, for just such reasons. They worry about everything from reproductive dysfunction (disproportionately in women) to prion disease, along with the vaccine-related or vaccine-proximate deaths that now number in the thousands, though representing – like COVID deaths – a tiny fraction of the exposed population. In some places, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson are being suspended, while Moderna and Pfizer are also coming under fire.

Balancing risks is of course a risky business. Only the young aren’t at risk, as they would be from polio, say, or the Spanish flu. Even older people, absent relevant co-morbidities, aren’t generally at risk. That doesn’t mean no one should be vaccinated, a view almost as hard to defend as the official view that everyone should be vaccinated. But it is one thing to choose to be vaccinated ourselves, knowing that we are participating in a human experiment; quite another to encourage others to do so, especially others who, if the experiment fails or indeed goes off the rails, will be much more heavily impacted. This is where the rubber hits the road, ethically speaking, and (let those who lack indemnification beware) legally as well.

As I argued recently in Catholic World Report, no one is morally obliged to take EUA vaccines for the sake of neighbor-love or good citizenship. The opposite might well be the case, despite the empty rhetoric of morally discredited figures in church and state. Nor is anyone in North America (yet) obliged by law, not even those in the military or in the medical system. It is both morally wrong and unconstitutional forcibly or deceptively to vaccinate anyone, though this is already happening in some places to the disabled and to street people, which tells us much about the phenomenon we are facing.

I wonder, in just that connection, whether many have thought about the relation between abortion rights – sloganized as “my body, my choice” but being in reality another’s body, my choice – and the vaccine mandates, formal or informal, which posit that your unvaccinated body puts my vaccinated body at risk, hence you also must be vaccinated. The analogy is certainly imperfect, but again there’s something perverse here. The perversity lies not so much in the fact that a vaccinated body is not supposed to be at risk – if it is, what’s the point? – as in the game of trump being played. Boomers, after all these years, still tend to be selfish bastards, especially when they fancy themselves philanthropists.

I want to feel safe. You make me feel unsafe. So you must change.” A woman illustrated this quite nicely at our local grocery store the other day. When given cash back from her purchase, she threw the money on the floor (the Great Pandemic has given “filthy lucre” a new meaning) and yelled that her refund must be put on her credit card. Now all the tellers are required to ask customers how they would like their refunds before dispensing them. I guess that’s what Bonnie would call kindness.

I’m not very kind, perhaps, and not even very safe. I would just have thanked the woman for her tip and pocketed the change. It’s good to stay calm, however. Which means, among other things, not indulging the incessant fear-mongering in the media – that we do indulge it is the most obvious symptom of our true sickness – and from those lab-coat lobbyists and their lobbyists in chief. “Oh, but younger people sometimes do get this dreadful disease. In any case, our hospitals are going to collapse if you don’t stay parked on your sofa watching the CBC or reading my book.”

Against such fear-mongering I have been outspoken from the beginning, alongside the likes of Rusty Reno, who first woke me to the danger. For greater certainty, then, I do not mean to say that the more dire predictions about the mRNA “vaccines” are likely to come true. I have no way of knowing and would very much prefer, with many good and able people, to suppose that they won’t. I only intend to say that we are being herded into what is undeniably an experiment – a mostly unnecessary experiment that does indeed invite charges of malpractice, there being other means of prevention and treatment, and the COVID fatality rate and excess death numbers being so low. (In March 2021, the age-standardized mortality rate for England and Wales, for example, was more than five percent lower than the five-year average.)

There is, however, something of which to be afraid, quite rationally afraid. Or rather, something against which to be vigilant and ready to fight. For this medical experiment is also a political experiment, an experiment in population management and control. In that way, too, it is linked to abortion.

To say such things is not to indulge in conspiracy theory. It is merely to state the obvious. The aforementioned forces have made perfectly clear where they want to take us. If they have done so in such a way as to invite a proliferation of conspiracy theories, what of it? Sensible people must still ponder the big picture, just as they do, and the big picture as they see it includes a very much smaller population, one that can only be achieved by societal reconstruction and centralized control, led by a new but doubtless very mediaeval elite. Safety and comfort, as Dostoevsky predicted in The Brothers Karamazov and P. D. James in The Children of Men, are to be offered in lieu of independence and liberty. They are being offered right now through the cultivation of COVID-fear and an empty promise of protection – layer upon layer of protection – for those prepared to relinquish their rights and freedoms.

We have a moral obligation to point this out to the young, whose economic and political future is being tampered with while the collective psyche is being toyed with. Or perhaps they will have to point it out to us, insisting in no uncertain terms that they don’t wish to pay the price of our paranoia or to bear the burdens with which we are saddling them. It is their future we are mortgaging.

Should vaccine passports be introduced, as in some places they already are, we have a very grave obligation to refuse and resist them. Three cheers for Governor DeSantis, as a young man up the street said to me just yesterday. And for those clergy and MPs – not all are conformist quislings – who have joined ordinary publicans and high-flying controversialists in generating some resistance. While I wouldn’t agree with the likes of Naomi Wolf about very much, I expect, about brave resistance to “the biosecurity state” I do agree. For the advent of such a state – whether in China, as is already the case, or in Israel, as is becoming the case, or globally, as must eventually be the case – is a far more serious threat to human well-being than an experimental coronavirus treatment. But for that very reason the latter must also be treated with caution. Currently it is the carrot on the stick leading the donkey down the road to Tyranny.

Back to British Columbia or wherever it is that you live: Many people simply do what they are advised to do in matters of public health because they have a lifelong habit of compliance with authority. The habit is right and reasonable, in principle. But enough has happened in the last decade or so, and particularly in the last year or so, to dissuade a thinking person from the idea that we should simply do what we are told because we are told, on the presumption that those doing the telling are generally responsible people, acting rationally. That was never an adequate approach to our civic duty. Today, it is an impossible one.

These same authorities have told us, for example, that there is no such thing as male and female, and for all practical public purposes no God, either, who might have made man male and female. They have encouraged us, nay, required us to seek Safe Spaces both mentally and physically, even at the cost of denying plain facts – biological, economic, social, and spiritual facts – from which no person can ultimately escape with their sanity intact. Through these new Sacred Spaces – sorry, Safe Spaces – they have been busy destroying institutions and conventions without which no civilization can thrive or even survive. Not to put too fine a point on it, they have shown themselves half mad. Some of them behave as if they were themselves gods. Even Thomas Hobbes, in lauding religious sacrifices (the kind many of our bishops have been making) for the sake of civil peace, told us we ought not to stomach that.

So if, after this apocalyptic year, you still think we can afford simply to do as we are told, or that we cannot afford not to, well, good luck to you. But before recommitting yourself to that thesis and plan of action, you might want to watch a powerful montage from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom, called “Covid: the Political Pandemic”. It will remind you what ungainly pirouettes the puppets have been performing while chanting “Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe.”

As for me, while I do not pretend to resolve medical or scientific disputes beyond my ken, neither do I trust public health shamans to determine the law, conduct foreign policy, run the economy, or rule our social and religious life, all of which is quite beyond their ken – as indeed is much of “the science” when they get outside their own immediate competence. Were I myself still young, I would not willingly entrust myself or my future to them or to their vaccination programs. Indeed, I won’t do so now, and I hope the young won’t either.

Be kind, be calm be safe? Rather, be gone, you and your charms! As the incandescent Mr Humphris succinctly put it to Sir Starmer, “Get out of my pub!“

  1. I really wish that people with no medical or scientific expertise or actual responsibility in dealing with the pandemic would keep their uninformed opinions to themselves.

I live in Canada as well and we are in the midst of a deadly 3rd wave. ICU staff do not have the luxury of thinking deep philosophical thoughts from their safe home office. In fact, many of us have to work in the public the midst of this pandemic. At my work someone died of covid last week. Perhaps from the professor’s well appointed home office (where his pay is most likely guaranteed) this pandemic seems like another theoretical idea to play with, but for many people it’s literally life or death.

    • “I really wish that people with no medical or scientific expertise or actual responsibility in dealing with the pandemic would keep their uninformed opinions to themselves.”

There you go: if you aren’t an “expert”, just shut up, people! An enlightened and tolerant attitude, which bodes well for the future of the freedom of speech.

      • Carl,

Yes, it’s better to listen to informed opinions rather than uninformed ones. That’s why I’d go to a cardiologist for advice regarding a heart problem rather than my mechanic.

As for free speech, he’s free to say whatever he likes. I’m also free to completely disregard him because he really has no expertise or standing in the topic at hand. It’s like how I generally ignore the “medical advice” of Hollywood stars.

        • Andrew-

Douglas Farrow is Professor of Theology and Ethics and as I stated in another post, theology and ethics are part and parcel of authentic medical practice.

    • I really wish people with no wisdom or philosophical expertise or actual concern for human freedom would keep their uninformed opinions to themselves.

In my province (Alberta), approximately 500 people died last week – 5 of those (.01%) were from Covid. My dad died – alone – last month, not from Covid. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and fear, but allow those willing to protect your freedom to speak.

        • Andrew, thank you for your prayer. My dad suffered greatly and unnecessarily over the past year because of Covid restrictions. Forgive me for not giving all glory to the the “experts.” Since you refer to credentials below, let me say that I have masters degrees in both public health and theology. An interesting combination at this time in history, wouldn’t you say? Your own epistemology is lacking if you think that the only way of analyzing and understanding the past year is through the medical sciences. When I did my masters in public health (late 1990s, early 2000s), the idea of “health” as more than simply “physical health” was in ascendance. The determinants of health, we said, included income, employment, education, social supports, healthy behaviours, etc. I have been appalled in the past year, as one so-called public health expert after another abandoned this broad way of thinking and talking about health. Indeed, they have set public health back decades and almost destroyed its reason for being. I believe that Dr Farrow is one of the deepest and most courageous thinkers in Canada today. His prophetic voice is needed and welcome.

    • Mr Olson all ur trying to do is shoot the messenger because u cannot refute the contents of the message. I live in British Columbia and u don’t need to b a medical expert nor have scientific expertise to see that the whole response to COVID has been absurdly overblown. Hopefully more people will realize that and see the longer term devastation being caused by the bumbling authorities and start standing up for our long term well being.

    • Andrew, I live in Canada as well. Please stop supporting the censoring of people because they use common sense, rational and have made every effort to inform themselves. And if you had not noticed Dr. Farrow is a medical expert, hence trust you appreciate being informed of his status and expertise. In Canada no assigned medical expert in each province chosen by respective political parties are saying that the covid shot/experiment works. They are stating that the covid shot/experiment will ‘possibly, hopefully work or they believe’ will decrease the symptoms of covid 19. No politically assigned medical officer is stating there are no side affects because this is an experiment and hence they cannot say no side affects. And if there are any side affects they minimize and or dismiss them. Equally politically assigned medical officers are not saying much about the vast number of side affects and or vaccine injuries because that would impact their narrative about the effectiveness of the covid shot/experiment. I am grateful for the logic and reasoning being put forward by many concerned medical experts and scientists. I am one that prefers to think for myself by gathering information from those narrating for the covid shot/experiment and those medical experts and scientists who provide facts based on science about the covid experiment. That is being responsible, safe and kind. Thank you Dr. Farrow for your article.

      • Annette,

        A) Dr. Farrow is not a scientist or physician. He has a doctorate in theology. Similar to how Jill Biden is a “doctor” in education. Dr. Farrow is an expert in theology, not vaccines. I would have no hesitation to turn to him on theological matters.

        B) Medical Officers in Canada are hired based on their combined expertise in both medicine and public health policy (and yes, we should turn to experts…if you don’t think so then ask yourself if you would hire someone unqualified in auto repair to fix your car brakes).

        C) The safety and efficacy of the vaccines have been verified and tested by a myriad of independent scientific medical bodies all over the world.

        D) As for the vaccine connection with abortion, the Holy See and many orthodox Catholic bioethics organizations (i.e. National Catholic Bioethics Center) have addressed that important issue.

        E) Covid-19 is very real. If you’d like to see what it looks like uncontrolled, look up news about covid in India. Pray for the people of India.

        • Thank you again Dr. Farrow for your article and expertise in discerning the facts and reality of what those facts imply and in many ways mean. The covid shot experiment continues to be a trial experiment and I am praying for those believing it is safe with just a few months of ongoing trial. And yes covid is as real as the covid shot and its ongoing fall out. Praying for you Andrew.

        • “B) Medical Officers in Canada are hired based on their combined expertise in both medicine and public health policy (and yes, we should turn to experts…if you don’t think so then ask yourself if you would hire someone unqualified in auto repair to fix your car brakes).”

Bull. Public health policy is not a neutral speculative science but a set of premises and conclusions regarding practical matters, and the “expertise” in such a set is meaningless if the premises or conclusions are incorrect. Not only that but such a set of practical premises and conclusions is subject to scrutiny by [moral] theology in the light of revealed Divine Law and the Natural Law.

You’ve been indoctrinated by the technobureaucrats.

        • Andrew,

“D) As for the vaccine connection with abortion, the Holy See and many orthodox Catholic bioethics organizations (i.e. National Catholic Bioethics Center) have addressed that important issue.”

This could be refuted by the same reasoning you dismissed Dr. Farrow. The response at America magazine on the vaccines is that they are aware of the moral implications but they don’t matter. It reminded me of what Obama wrote in his first book. He said he understands that people have concerns about the morality of abortions but basically they don’t matter. No arguments were or are developed. Just pure dismissal. BTW, at America website every comment I have posted with alternative views never sees the light. I have gotten second opinions from medical doctors and nurses that do not follow the politically advantageous narrative. I think we really need to look into which hospitals the majority of deaths occur at and the philosophical/ethical makeup of the hospital directors.

    • No, the ones with guaranteed pay are the ones like Dr. Fauci who work for the government and can play merry mayhem with freedom, with the economy, with everything else because they know that one way or another they’re going to be fine.

    • So then, what professional and academic credentials give you the authority to be pontificating about this? Or are you exempting yourself from your own standards?

    • Hello Andrew,
I have cousins in Canada but haven’t heard lately what’s going on in with the virus in their province. It sounds like I should check in on them.
I really don’t have anything of much value to add to this personally but I suppose if you follow the advice of government officials I can mention that our governor may be lifting the general mask mandate soon and that has only been enforced depending upon local officials choice. Where we live it’s not enforced and churches are now open to 100 percent capacity, masks optional.
Our public health nurse said they’re seeing some severe reactions to the initial Covid vaccine which may suggest a number of people have already experienced Covid.
So that’s all I know from this part of the world. Perhaps we’re running out of folks being hospitalized with Covid because they’ve already had it? We’re having less than 10 deaths a day statewide attributed to Covid so that’s a good thing.
I hope the situation improves soon in Canada also. It was extremely serious here last year but perhaps it’s run it’s course for the time being. Well see.
I’m only sure about one thing which is that we’re all eventually going to find out we were wrong about some piece of this epidemic.
      God bless!

      • I would respond but your dismissive renaming me as “Andy” clearly demonstrates you are not willing to have a good will discussion/debate.

    • As Edward Feser noted in his blog around this time last year, the “Experts” (whom I believe are generally self appointed “Experts” in their fields) have lost their credibility to speak out on the Pandemic, due to their frequent contradictions and flat out errors, and have only themselves to blame for that.

    • It does not take rocket science to figure out the pandemic is virtually all planned to control and subjugate people. The covid virus was never isolated, and the number of cases are not the same as deaths or hospitalizations. Keeping quiet only violates the Charter of Rights. I know a number of people in Canada, and the way they are falsifying information is not justified. My condolences to your colleague who died, but nobody knows if your colleague died of covid. Many unrelated covid deaths are being recorded as covid.

    • Yeah, I call BS. In ten days enough babies are born to have replaced everyone from or with covid. Remember that the dead with covid often died of something else, usually habituated bad health choices they made for 40, 50, or 60 years. I am not responsible for your health. You are. And frankly, you simply shout out an anecdote and mix in some faux virtue. But the hospitals were never overrun. Ever. And people die of disease. Grow up.

  2. Apologies mr Olson. I c those weren’t ur comments but I can’t determine the string of who was shooting the messenger. My comments were meant to b directed at the individual doing so.

  3. “Boomers, after all these years, still tend to be selfish bastards, especially when they fancy themselves philanthropists.”

Well said, and unfortunately, all too true!

  4. I have suffered emotionally and mentally during these last 10 months reading, reading, reading, scientific journals, peer-reviewed papers, 2019 and before studies by the CDC and more (I live in the socialist State of California…..for now). My husband was a college science professor and I used to work for the Federal government. Believe me or not, it’s your call, but I assure you that the following are true:
    1. Asymptomatic persons do not spread the virus. If you are sick, stay home. wash your hands and don’t touch your face, you know, like you do during the seasonal flu virus EACH AND EVERY YEAR. Note that they have NOT found a vaccine for the yearly flu virus, yet claim to have one for the SARS-CoV-2 virus? Yeah, r-i-g-h-t. And I have a bridge I’d like to sell you…..
    2. It is abusive, and physically, mentally and psychologically harmful to make a child under 16 wear a mask, period. Parents, who do you serve? God and your responsibility to your family? Or the State?
    3. Children have a statistically zero chance of acquiring or transmitting the virus, and for all intents and purposes, have a zero chance of dying from it. The cruelty of the government and Church authorities angers me and boggles the mind. They can’t possible believe that there’s God’s judgement after death.
    4. Masks, lockdowns and distancing do nil or nothing to stop infection, transmission or spread of the virus, so it is STUPID for ANYONE to adhere to these mandates, period. If they worked, then why are we being crushed by them 14 months after the “14 days to flatten the curve”? Lie, lie, lie.
    4. The medical term “cases” is being abused to fearmonger and grab or hold onto power. There is only a “case” when a person exhibits a certain set of symptoms that directly relate to the virus in question. At no time should a (supposedly) “positive” test result be called a “case”. The developer of the tests says that they were not meant for this purpose and that there is a 50% false positive rate. (The corpses of suicide victims that are “positive” for the virus are classified as a “Covid” death. I’m in awe at the medical ethics exhibited for the last 14 months…..NOT!) When you hear that the virus is “raging” due to a spike in “cases”, get angry. You are being manipulated emotionally, psychologically, mentally and physically to be afraid and compliant so that you will “do as you are told”, just like good little boys and girls. After all, THEY know what’s best for you and your loved-ones, didn’t you know that?
    5. If we let this continue a bit longer then we will lose the ability to “live”. Are you willing to trade liberty and freedom for a bit of supposed safety and security? If you are, then you just go on and continue bowing to the State’s mandates while we fight for the right to personal autonomy. BTW, if God is on your right and the State is on your left, what part of you does God see when you turn and bow to the State?
    6. Learn what politicians, the filthy-rich, globalists, elitists and leftists (each can be a combination of those traits) and health dictators are planning for our future. Learn about Sustainable Development, The Great Reset, The Green New Deal, Agenda 2030, The World Economic Forum (whose now-deleted from their website motto is “You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy”. Who doesn’t own anything? SLAVES??? Are they HAPPY?) Then you will know they want to be our masters and they want us to be their slaves.
    7. Socialism makes everyone, except the “rulers”, of course, equal alright…..equally poor. Socialism doesn’t allow for personal freedom or autonomy, personal property or a Constitution. The State owns everything and micro-manages each person’s life…..or death. Consider going to the site “BitterWinter” to get a glimpse of what life is like under Socialism/Communism. And, if you have a moment, peruse SearchLearnResist.com. Thank you for reading. There is SO MUCH MORE I COULD TELL YOU. Care enough to learn…..to learn the truth.

    • Beautiful truth. Thank you for your courage and obedience to God. We are indeed being lied to, and most Catholics believe the lies.

      • Thaddeus, I agree. And many Catholics believe the lies because their pastors and bishops are reinforcing state mandates in their parishes. They do this with a zealotry that outweighs anything spiritual they may be trying to impress upon their flocks. The removal of the Sunday Mass obligation has sent a loud and clear message: “The sacraments are non-essential. The governor said so.” How is this going to be remedied when (if?) we ever return to normal?

  5. “…B) Medical Officers in Canada are hired based on their combined expertise in both medicine and public health policy ”
    and diversity value.

  6. Dr. Farrow, thank you for your article and the critical and (may I say) common sense analysis. I am a late baby boomer American and I have been quite uncomfortable with the whole way the authorities, both health and government, have responded to this “pandemic”. I’ve never seen or heard anything like it. I’m shocked and worried about what’s happening in Canada. It seems so many have been cast into pandemic hysteria and aren’t thinking critically anymore. They just want someone to make them feel safe. Meanwhile, real helpful news from experts who are dealing with patients everyday is suppressed by the powers that be in government, industry and the media. Thank you for your contribution to restoring sanity.

  7. There it is. Douglas Farrow, Professor of Theology and Ethics gives credit that theology and ethics figure into the issue of vaccines and actually credits the fact that people have been GRANTED BY GOD the gifts of intellect and free will. Many civil and church authorities have taken a narrow view of this vaccine conundrum, committing themselves to a one-way street in order to solve a problem. Those civil and church authorities are adept at attempting to instill guilt and fear into the population so that the power and money god of Marxism might be appeased. Attempts to asphyxiate the “Do no harm” written into the Hippocratic Oath are manifest in the elite circles where apparently the human being is simply a pawn in the scheme of a master plan. History bears out the times when human beings were viewed as expendable and subjected to horrors of experimentations. Authentic medical practice considers the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual character of the human being and embraces ethical practice within that profession. Authentic medical practice exercises respect for each person and their God given intellect and free will. In days gone by and it seems these days (bye, bye) people viewed life, its joy and sorrows as an entire continuum. What ever happened to the peace of knowing, experiencing, encountering to our capacity that which is written in scripture:

    Ecclesiastes 3
    Douay-Rheims Bible
To Everything There is a Season

1All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven.

2A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

3A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to destroy, and a time to build.

4A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.

5A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.

6A time to get, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.

7A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.

8A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.

    The Excellence in God’s Works

9What hath man more of his labour? 10I have seen the trouble, which God hath given the sons of men to be exercised in it.

11He hath made all things good in their time, and hath delivered the world to their consideration, so that man cannot find out the work which God hath made from the beginning to the end.

12And I have known that there was no better thing than to rejoice, and to do well in this life. 13For every man that eateth and drinketh, and seeth good of his labour, this is the gift of God. 14I have learned that all the works which God hath made, continue for ever: we cannot add any thing, nor take away from those things which God hath made that he may be feared. 15That which hath been made, the same continueth: the things that shall be, have already been: and God restoreth that which is past.
