Catholics In Power: The progressive stances of Biden and Pelosi

They oppose religious liberty, appear quite determined to impose the comprehensive society-changing LGBT agenda on the country, and are pro-abortion.

The two most powerful political figures in the country, probable (mindful that the election has still not been officially declared) President-elect Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, are Catholics who oppose religious liberty, appear quite determined to impose the comprehensive society-changing LGBT agenda on the country, and are pro-abortion.

A test of faith

Being Catholic was a central part of Biden’s campaign, and he regularly brought up his personal Catholic faith in appearances and speeches. A photo on his campaign website featured him presiding from the altar. “Joe Biden’s Agenda for the Catholic Community” was a separate section of his campaign website. There he cited Pope Francis and his Laudato Si about the “climate change crisis.” Indeed, he regularly posted pictures of himself with Pope Francis.  A post-election posting by Biden quotes the Catholic hymn “On Eagle’s Wings”.

The last decade has seen an unprecedented stream of cases in the Supreme Court in which individuals and churches have defended their religious liberties against, among others, the Obama administration, the states of California and Colorado and the city of Philadelphia.  Responding to the victory of the Little Sisters of the Poor in the Supreme Court in July of this year, Biden said he will restore the Obama-era contraception mandate that was the basis of that religious-liberty case.

Both Pelosi, as well as Senator and now probable vice-president-elect Kamala Harris, signed on to an amicus brief filed by Democratic members of Congress against the Little Sisters. In the Fulton Supreme Court case just argued the day after the elections, Catholic Social Services was canceled by the city of Philadelphia as an agency for placing foster children in homes because they would not place children with gay couples. Pelosi shortly afterward joined a Democrat amicus brief against the Services.

In the 2018 Senate confirmation hearing for Catholic Brian Buescher to be a federal judge, Senator Harris questioned Buescher concerning his membership in the Knights of Columbus. She asked, “were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization.” Yet, Article VI of the Constitution prescribes that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

The Equality Act

The proposed Equality Act would essentially subject all federal and state laws and regulations and all constitutional interpretations, federal and state, to a re-analysis based on LGBT. Biden has said that passage of the Equality Act will be “a top legislative priority” and that he will “direct his cabinet to ensure immediate and full enforcement of the Equality Act across all federal departments and agencies.” The 2020 Democrat Platform describes the Equality Act as “at last outlaw[ing] discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in housing, public accommodations, access to credit, education, jury service, and federal programs”—among other areas. The Platform goes on to state that the Act would go on to prohibit discrimination concerning “perception or belief, even if inaccurate.”  Under the leadership of Pelosi, the House Democratic majority passed the Act 18 months ago.  She said that the Act would apply “not just in the workplace, but in every place.”

Biden has said that “using religion or culture to license discrimination and demonizing LGBT individuals” is “prejudice” and “inhumanity.” In the Masterpiece Cake Supreme Court case in which the state of Colorado attempted to coerce an objecting Christian baker into baking a cake for a gay wedding, a member of the Colorado Civil Rights Commission told the baker that “freedom of religion and religion have been used to justify all kinds of discrimination throughout history.” Pelosi and Harris joined the Democrat brief against the baker. Biden has twice officiated at the weddings of gay aides.

In the landmark Hosanna Tabor case (2012), the Supreme Court upheld the right of a Lutheran church and school to designate and certify its own ministers without government interference. The Obama administration argued that the religion clauses of the First Amendment did not actually apply, which, Justice Roberts, writing for the unanimous Court, described as “the remarkable view that the Religion Clause have nothing to say about a religious organization’s freedom to select its own ministers.” Presumably, Biden will not differ from this stance of the Administration of which he was vice-president.

Position on abortion

On abortion, both Biden and Pelosi have asserted that they will seek the repeal of the Hyde Amendment prohibiting federal funding of abortions in Medicaid. Biden has repeatedly emphasized that he wants to turn the abortion-for-nine-months Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton into a federal statute, thereby making it “the law of the land,” and he has said that his “Justice Department will do everything in its power to stop the rash of state laws that so blatantly violate” Roe. If federal agents enforced such new federal laws, it is difficult to conceive how the on-the-spot counseling and persuading practices of the pro-life movement could survive.  And will there be new federal criminal laws associated with the codification of Roe/Bolton?

In the Life Advocates case in which the Court ruled in 2018 that the state of California could not require crisis-pregnancy centers to advertise abortion, Pelosi and Harris signed on to the Democrat brief against the centers. Last year, Pelosi spoke at the dinner of the National Abortion Rights Action League’s celebration of its 50th anniversary.  It was her “privilege,” and she was “thrilled” to attend, Pelosi said.  In addition, Pelosi just called Amy Coney Barrett an “illegitimate Supreme Court justice.”

In response to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ questioning whether the Biden presidency would be progressive enough, Biden’s campaign communications director recently asserted that Biden plans to be “progressive and aggressive.”

  1. So, why do you dignify Biden and Pelosi with the title “Catholics” when by their own words and actions they are apostates, heretics, and degenerates?

      • I would argue that by their actions – over a number of years – they have effectively ex-communicated themselves many times and as such should not present themselves for Holy Communion, which is blasphemy. But – there is no Priest (with the exception of the Priest in South Caroline) who has the stones to deny it to them.

        Bishops? Forget it.

      • Excommunication is a juridical sentence imposed upon a member of the Church by a proper Church authority. I could do a whole article on it–but I cannot here. As I Catholic, I am called upon by St. Paul the Apostle himself to shun apostates, heretics, and blasphemers or in another of his phrases the “ungodly”.

Can you not recognize that Biden, Pelosi, Cuomo, etc. do not profess the truth faith? They deny it most of all by their acts and omissions. You cannot endorse, promote, protect, and promulgate laws that allow abortion, homosexual practices and “marriage” and transgenderism and be a Catholic. Biden is a master liar-he is not even “personally opposed” to homosexual rights as he “married” two men! Not for nothing but Pelosi and Biden are almost as significant war criminals as the Bush and Clinton Crime families. Of course, only Jeb Bush claims to be a Catholic among those people.

  2. Perhaps we should stop calling these people “progressive.” They are not. Their policies will not foster progress in medicine, poverty, child welfare, technology, care for the environment, or anything else. Actually, they are regressive. We could call them that: Regressives. Or simply Marxists.
    .
Whatever we call them, Moloch is certainly a happy demon these days.

  3. Thank you for this article.
I could only read the first paragraph of each section – too nauseating.
Too many Catholics, even those sitting in the pews, are totally clueless about this agenda.

  4. If Biden becomes president, let there be no doubt as to the praise and affection’s Which will be showered upon him by the archbishop of Washington DC.
Such is the state of the political class of the Catholic Church.
    Ditto for our pope.

  5. These two are NOT Catholics. They are CINA “sinnahs” (Catholic in Name Alone). Any true, faithful Catholic would have NEVER voted for him for President.

  6. sorry, Icannot in good faith call Biden and Pelosi “CATHOLIC” IF THEY DO NOT ABIDE BY PRINCIPLES OF THE CATHOLIC RELIGION. THEY SHOULD BE EX. COMMUNICATED AND YOUR ORGANIZATION SHOULD RENOUNCE THEM!

  7. LMAO more boomer rage fuel
“probable (mindful that the election has still not been officially declared) ”
Nothing needs to be read after this; we know who bankrolled this opinion piece.

    • “boomer rage”

From which I am forced to conclude that you are one of those self-centered little snowflakes who think that people of their age the ultimate achievement of humanity, and none of the generations who have gone before them have opinions worth anything, because – well, I haven’t heard any intelligent reason for their high opinion of themselves, which seems deeply rooted in an ignorance of history.

  8. All this is so heartbreaking! I feel as if the gates of hell have been fully opened. May God’s mercy be upon us! I feel a sadness that I cannot begin to describe.

  9. President Biden is an answer to the prayers of Millions around the World to end the insane Genocide, murder, extermination of millions of innocent humans, and upheaval around the World, due to Unjust Wars. Pray for and end to the forever war on Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, for the people to freed from the corrupt leader of Syria. And most importantly, the final end to the Genocide imposed on the poorest country on Earth, Yemen.
Pray for the People of Haiti, a Catholic nation that the people elected a past Catholic to lead them, yet he was removed by the US..
Pray for the people of Mexico, most directly the Women, girls, murdered in ongoing terrorism against women, and also Catholic priests murdered to incite, terror, terrorism.
Biden is the first sign of an end of forever wars, and a new path of peace.
Jesus went into the Temple and stood against Unbridled Capitalism, and for standing against, he was crucified.

    • I am not a Catholic, but even I can tell that Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are hypocrites of the highest order and have no shame or remorse for using their Catholicism just to get elected while they have no desire to live by the Biblical positions of the Catholic Church.

    • Biden will not stand up against the unjust wars you mentioned, he is a member in good standing of the political establishment that started and has continued these wars for the past 19 years. During the campaigning of 2016, only Trump spoke out against these endless wars, and none of the other candidates, including Biden, agreed with him. When he pulled troops from Syria, the establishment were outraged. When he removed troops from Germany, 74 years after the end of WWII, again the establishment was outraged. War is not a partisan issue, the majority of both dirty parties support all the wars, and would like to see a few more. If you see Biden as the man to end this evil, you are been greatly deceived.

I too am against unbridled capitalism, but history has clearly shown that the solution of Marxism is much worse than the illness of abusive capitalism. And no, Christ was not crucified for being against capitalism, he was crucified for his public condemnation of the religious leaders of the Jewish religion, who had allowed the religion to be corrupted by teachings which did not come from God. These teachings, existing then as an oral tradition, were later codified in the Talmud. Jesus publicly condemned these teachings and denounced the Pharisees and other leaders who used them to circumvent the true teachings of God and abuse the people. This is why they had him crucifies, he exposed their corruption and was a threat to their power.

    • Biden supported the Gulf War, the Afghanistan War, the Iraq War, and the Libyan War–what planet are you on?

All that, and a pro-abortionist as well-he will have MUCH to answer for at the Judgement Seat of Christ.

  10. For decades politicians have been trumpeting their Catholic identity even as they support abortion to the hilt – Geraldine Ferraro, Mario Cuomo and now Andrew Cuomo, Ted Kennedy, John Kerrey, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden among others.
For the most part, the bishops have remained silent, permitting them to receive Communion and allowing lavish Catholic funerals (T. Kennedy & M. Cuomo). This leads people to think that the Church has changed its teaching on life issues. (Biden also “married” two men, again with little or no consequences from the hierarchy.)
The bishops have been missing in action, failing in their duty to teach and uphold the faith and to correct error. They have given Biden a free ride, permitting him to wave and exploit his Catholic credentials while promoting a public secular agenda directly contrary to the basic teachings of his faith.
Will the bishops ever do their duty?

  11. Biden and Pelosi are the public face of the ” false” Catholic Church created by enemies of the True Catholic Church. They were used as a wedge to divide and conquer the true Church. They will now be used to persecute and attempt to destroy the true Church. by legalized means. Our enemies don’t have the courage to do it directly so they will use this false church just like the communist in China did when they created the Patriotic Catholic Church. Biden and Pelosi parade around with rosaries and invoke the saints. That is blasphemy. for they are the enemies of the true church. Good Bishops of the True Church like Tobin of Rhode Island spoke out against this false church early on and we saw how false Catholic Church members in the media . like Chris Matthews publicly attacked him. Many of our good Bishops need prayer and verbal support from us good Catholics as they face this coming battle to defend the true Church.
