President Joe Biden, the second Catholic president in U.S. history, believes that abortion is a “woman’s right,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Thursday. Her comments came in response to a question about Texas’ newly-enacted abortion ban asked by EWTN News Nightly White House Correspondent Owen Jensen.

“I know you’ve never faced those choices, nor have you ever been pregnant,” Psaki told Jensen, “but for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing.”

Beginning Sept. 1, the “Texas Heartbeat Act” bans abortions statewide after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can happen as early as six weeks into pregnancy. The law also enables citizens to enforce the ban through private lawsuits.

When the Supreme Court rejected an emergency request to block the law in a 5–4 decision, Biden declared a “whole-of-government” response to “ensure” abortion access in the state.

On Sept. 2, Jensen asked Psaki about Biden’s position at a White House press conference.

“Why does the president support abortion when his own Catholic faith teaches abortion is morally wrong?” he wanted to know.

Psaki said that the president believes that abortion is a “woman’s right, it’s a woman’s body, and it’s her choice.”

In a follow-up question, Jensen asked, “Who does he believe, then, should look out for the unborn child?”

According to Psaki, Biden “believes that it’s up to a woman to make those decisions and up to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor.”

She added, “The president believes their right should be respected.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, which summarizes Church teaching, recognizes the inherent dignity and worth of the unborn human person and considers abortion a “crime against human life.”

“Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception,” the catechism reads. “From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.”

  1. Kudos to Owen Jensen.

Gilberta – you are 100% correct – this has gone WAY beyond tiresome – saying the same things over and over and over, but if just one person changes his or her mind in our direction from one of these tiresome exchanges, it’s worth it.

  2. Yes Roberta. The same disengenuous arguments have been used by the infanticidists for decades now. The fetus has it’s own heartbeat, feels it’s own pain, yet they pretend their is only one body involved, that of the mother. What bothers me most is the way the pro abortion group, including Biden in his rebuttal against the new law, always refer to issue as a “health care” issue. Is pregnancy an illness? Is killing a living baby an act of health care? Abortion supporters have to couch the issue in deceptive language, because what they are supporting is clearly immoral and can only be accepted if it’s true nature is disguised. The other favorite tactic is to “women’s rights” issue, so that if you are against it you must by inference be against women’s rights. The truth will win out in the end, and it is very encouraging to see what they have done in Texas to protect the unborn. Hallelujah.

  3. Psaki reiterates that Biden’s Faith is so private that it just doesn’t bear any resemblance to truth in reality and must therefore be left at the doorstep at the beginning of each day. So, it makes perfect sense that the two people involved in such a life-ending decision must only be the prospective mother who wants to rid herself of that life and the doctor who profits from the same.

The doctrine of the Church must be false in this as Psaki implies. This ‘right’ is in the US Constitution; the Founding Fathers just didn’t understand ‘penumbra’ as Blackmun did.

The Church is not to be respected as that respect belongs to a woman’s body and her choice to do whatever she desires with said body.

    DNA be damned.

Radical self-determination supported by that nihilistic statement posing as wisdom,

    …I didn’t ask to be born…

  4. Snarky Psaki is a prime example of the incompetence of the current administration. Owen Jensen should have followed up and asked Psaki if she has ever been faced with that “choice” and if so what “choice” she made.

  5. Biden’s conception of Catholicism is postmodern and secular. He is no more catholic than a clump of cancerous cells in his sordid cerebrum. He sends our sons into war then abdicates responsibility for bringing them home. At the same time, he vows all resources of the federal government to protect the ‘right’ of women to murder their own sons and daughters. He is a sad farce, a blot, a stain on the Catholic faith. May God grant him justice by granting him the mercy he has shown those subject to his authority. Of course this includes the tiny humans he hastens to waste.
