SAURIMO, Angola — Pope Leo XIV flew to Saurimo, Angola, on Monday, where he visited a home for the elderly, whom he said have a wisdom that should be listened to.
The pope began his brief greeting by thanking those present for the faith-filled welcome, saying it “touched my heart” and “is a great comfort to me as I carry out my mission.”

You can tell the crowd had been waiting for this. During his apostolic trip to Africa, Pope Leo has already shown off his English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish — but this afternoon he unlocked a new language: Kimbundu, a Bantu language spoken in Angola. He said: “Mama Muxima, tueza kokué, Mama Muxima, tutambululé,” which means: “Mother of the heart, we come to you; Mother of the heart, receive us.” The crowd erupted in applause.
