Re #6 – Vatican Orders Removal of Fresco of Far-Right Leader as Angel (artnet)
Tell me the labelling of Georgia Meloni as far-right comes from artnet, not CWR.
If you click the link, you see that the title of the article at Artnet is exactly what CWR posted.
The people who report at Artnet are clearly as left-of-center as a typical New York Times reporter, but they do an outstanding job of covering news related to art.
“The face of an angel that looked suspiciously like the Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni has been removed from a church fresco in Rome, allegedly on the order of the Vatican. ”
Today’s word is pareidolia, boys and girls. If only they had that controversial painting that appeared to have the commissioning Bishop’s image from some years ago.
“…the commissioning Bishop’s image…” Enter stage left: Bishop Paglia! Himself removed last year, by Pope Leo, from his lofty Vatican office. Still awaiting news whenever the mural itself is removed from his home cathedral…

What is not be written in the Cardinal Cupich article is the massive catholic School closings that has happened under his leadership in the Archdiocese. As part of this, he allowed a Illinois state law to be repealed that provided tax credits that supported donations and tuitions for Catholic schools. This and his little if any support for pro life activities, among everything else makes won wonder who and what he is, and how in the world did he get to such a high position.
Mr. Flynn above (1:17 p.m.) – Thanks. I expected it was Artnet. Good to know they are good at something – art.
You are welcome, and I have enjoyed Artnet’s reporting for years.
Mr. Pitchfork above (1:32 p.m.) – “pareidolia” – not sure I want to know but can you give me an English translation?

The word derives from the Greek words pará (παρά, “beside, alongside, instead [of]”) and the noun eídōlon (εἴδωλον, “image, form, shape”). Karl Ludwig Kahlbaum introduced the German term Pareidolie in his 1866 …
I too didn’t know and couldn’t wait for Rebel.
Meiron (6:11 a.m.) – Thanks for the etymology. That’s what I need to get the meaning of the word and maybe have it stick.
(Good to know there are more word-fanatics out there. Word-philia it must be. I’ll have to look it up.)
