U.S. bishops, united

Every bishop who heads an American diocese has rejected the HHS mandate

Over at Catholic Vote, Thomas Peters has been compiling an indispensable list of all the US bishops who have released statements in opposition to the Department of Health and Human Services’ contraception mandate. This afternoon he announced that every bishop who heads an American diocese has released a statement condemning the Obama administration’s move (he also has links to all of the bishops’ statements). Interestingly, the newly-installed head of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, Msgr. Jeffrey Steenson, has also released a statement opposing the mandate.

Peters also has a running list of Catholic institutions and religious communities that have released similar statements (30, at this point), and another of non-Catholic institutions that have done so.
